2023 Director Elections
Elections are upon us once again. The time has come to start thinking about Board of Director elections for the association. This will be the 2nd election since the new board size and constitution changes. Again, this year elections will be held online with the new board announced at the business AGM in April 2023. Both the dates and venues will be announced through email, Facebook and on the BCTA website.
IMPORTANT NOTICE: WE WILL NOT BE SENDING OUT SNAIL MAIL BALLOTS. All members will receive email voting information on or before April 1. Voting period will be one week.
This year we will be asking for nominations and voting on the following positions;
Region 1 Director 2-year term
Region 3 Director 2-year term
Region 5 Director 2-year term
Region 6 Director 1 year term
Region 7A Director 2-year term
Region 7B Director 2-year term
Director at Large #2 – 2-year term
Vice President – 1 year term (re-aligning after losing previous VP halfway through term)
President – 2-year term
The first step in the elections process is the nomination of candidates. As per our by laws:
43. Nominations. Nominations for Board of Director Positions are due by February 15 each
calendar year, or on another date within a calendar year set by special resolution of the Board of
Directors. Nominations must be provided by at least two Voting Members of the Association in good
standing, or a Local. Please note all nominations must be received no later than February 15, 2023 for this coming years election. (Please see the nomination form, further down this page).
Eligible candidates must meet the requirements as set forth in the bylaws:
44. Regional Director Eligibility. Candidates for a Regional Director position must trap in or be
resident in the Region they are being nominated to represent and may only be nominated by the Locals of that Region or Voting Members who trap in or are residents of that Region.
Once all nominations have been received the elections committee will notify candidates they
have been nominated.
If the candidate wishes to accept the nomination, they must submit a campaign statement by March 1, 2023 that will published in the BC Trapper, Facebook page and on the NEW BCTA Website for membership to review. It is recommended campaign statements should contain thing such as, number of years as BCTA member, number of years trapping, if any previous experience on the board of directors or similar experience, any relative skills or training that would be beneficial to the BCTA, how you plan to contribute to BCTA by being on the board of directors.
Prior to elections members will have to identify which region they wish to cast their vote.
Members can only vote for one regional director. Which region a member wishes to vote will be
collected at the time of membership purchase.
Bylaw states:
50. Voting Rights. Any Voting Member may vote for a Presidential, Vice-Presidential candidate,
and two Director at Large Candidates. Voting Members may choose to vote for any Regional Director
candidate in the Region they live in or a Region they trap in, but cannot cast more than one
such vote during any one election.
Elections will be held online during the week of April 9-15th, 2023. Once the elections
committee has established the online elections platform is set to run, all members will be sent
email notifications.
You should all have an e-mail address now since renewing your 2023 BCTA
memberships. If you are a member who never uses email or does not have access to a
computer, please contact the elections committee. We can make arrangements to provide you
a mail in ballot. You must contact us to obtain a mail in ballot.
